Science Sites

We have JUST finished our reviewing our science curriculum as this was up in our seven year cycle.  I wanted to share some of the science sites that I either came across, or others shared with me that we are going to be using and I really like them, too:)!

1. CK12 - This one is NOT new to use - BUT I FORGOT ABOUT IT!!!  Their have open source and FREE, yes FREE, materials for use, adaptation and change.  There is SO much great information here not just on Science - give it a shot.

2. Rozzy - Science is infused in the real world with Rozzy.  There are lesson plans, videos, magazine, writing extensions, you name it.  AND at only $99/year per teacher, this one is a gem.  Again, not only for Science, but STEAM and Social Studies as well.

3. Generation Genius - I would definitely say that this website is geared for K-4, anything after that, even though it says 6-8 on there, I would stay away from the videos for sure.  However, at $795 a year for a school, it's one that is worth checking into and might have some great merit to it.

4. How Stuff Works - I LOVE THIS ONE!!  "Easy to understand answers and explanations of how things work in the world" is what their website says, and I agree.  They have beautiful graphics, videos and great information on a TON of science related fields.  You will enjoy this one!!

5. Science Kids - Although this site doesn't have EVERYTHING you would need, it DOES offer some really great experiments and lesson ideas for a variety of science related topic and themes.

6. NOVA - PBS and NOVA education have this site that is great.  Again, a ton of great videos to explain how and why things happen in our world.  There are a variety of topics and even have a specific education area.

That's it for today - check some of these out - it will be worth your time!
Happy Tuesday all,
Mrs. I:)

Resources Compiled for COVID-19

Here is a PLETHORA of resources that I have been compiling as we are dealing with teaching during COVID-19.  Use what you can - search and seek - I am going to just COPY AND PASTE - so the links might not be active:) Video/Podcast Options: Zoom!: This program allows you to video conference with up to 100 people.  HOWEVER, I feel this one is NOT the best for large groups, BUT, would be awesome to do with one on one or small group work, or recording videos to upload to Schoology.  Create an account and download this to your Macbook here, https://zoom.us/ and the students will have the app. Zoom How To: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-fnwZGctrFlE-Ho8Y5C_v8Hit7KdSnvW Explain Everything App : You can teach just about anything you would want, especially math, with this app.  This app allows you to import pictures, files, etc.. and then voice over it, even drawing if needed, to create a video.  Simply upload to YouTube, share the link and done!! I LIED!!! I TAKE THE THANK YOU TO APPLE BACK:(!!! UGH!!!

All went well yesterday after we had done the Apple Configurator update - here were a few that we had to put into recovery mode, etc... which wasn't GREAT- but worked alright.  Students had to put in email address again as well as Schoology, no big deal.  Some lost their camera roll pictures - not the TOTAL end of the world.  But TODAY - 5 kids have LOST EVERYTHING!!! UGH!!  I don't do ANYTHING different with these iPads that I don't do with the others that have worked fine - so WHY?????????????  A senior girl and a freshman boy lost EVERYTHING!  It COMPLETELY WIPED their iPads and reinstalled ALL again - WHY???????????  I want to call Apple but I am TOO MAD to call as I wouldn't be anything tactful at all - so I sit and ponder what it might be - maybe I should use another word than Ponder, I guess they're throwing him back in next week, huh??:):)  I just don't know what to do.  AND the part that gets me the MOST is Apple KNOWS that schools across the country

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)
