Some New GREAT Sites and Apps.............

I have just been digging around again and have found the following to be pretty cool:

1. Coggle - This a pretty cool site to use for mind mapping and brainstorming.  Students can create their own "coggle" or they can use ones already created there for studying purposes.  IT IS COOL!  They can also share it with someone, similar to a Google Doc and work collaboratively with it - LOVE THIS:)!!!

2.  Green Screen by Do Ink: Our Kindergarten teachers have been LOVING ON this app ALL YEAR LONG!  They have a few areas in their classrooms painted green, for their screen, and then take photos of kiddos by that.  They are then able to insert just about ANY background onto the back - they have taken field trips, written about jobs they wish to have, and even shared Olympic themes for Olympic Day.  CHECK THIS ONE OUT - it's $2.99, but would be worth to put on student iPads as the creativity they would have would be amazing.  Really, you could hang green paper, green table cloths, green fabric, etc in common areas for kids to access the use of it - pretty neat:)

3. AnswerGarden: This is a great tool to use for online brainstorming and coming up with ideas as a group.  The answers are then compiled to create a cloud of words with the answers. You can also create a QR code, which is embedded in there, to use for scanning and directly having access to the question and site.  It is pretty cool:)!

4. Flipgrid:  This website allows students to post responses to your questions, topics, or discussions in short video clips and share them on grids.  Students can then watch one another's clips and respond.  You can use their responses in assessments or use them for collaborative purposes.  Create your own of use already created and uploaded ones - check it out!

That's all I have for today - have to get working on social studies curriculum - take care and happy Tuesday all!

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
