Wheel of Names

Good morning everyone!  I hope you have been battling through and hanging in there with teaching the way it is now!  REMEMBER - YOU MATTER - and the impact you are having is still as strong as ever!  KEEP THAT IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND:)!!

I am not sure if you have seen the website Wheel of Names, but if you haven't CHECK IT OUT:)!!  My fellow bookstagrammer and I use it all the time for random name picks, giveaways, etc.. BUT recently,  one of our Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Willers, asked if I would created "spinners" for her of their sight words.  BRILLIANT:)!!!

Basically,  I made two spinners with eight words on each one; one spinner has the words lower case, the other spinner has the first word capitalized.  I did this for each list that they have (currently I have made 10 of the 30).  The kids can then use these for practicing their sight words:)!!

It's SO easy to use!  You just type in, or copy and paste, the list of words that you want and then the spinner is automatically created!  You can then "share" this link for the words for kids to spin on their own.   What a great way to practice sight words, and a little different than the traditionally word rings that are usually send home OR in addition to the rings;)!

You can click HERE to see the lists and what exactly Mrs. Willers had me do - SO FUN!!

Take care all - remember how special you are and the impact you're making even though it feels otherwise - the kids NEED us now more than ever - and YOU need to take care of yourself as well - our mental health is so very important!

Happy Monday -

Mrs. I:)

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
