November - WHAT??

I can NOT believe that this is my first blog of the 2021-22 school year.  Time seems to slip away faster and faster as the years go on.  WOW - many changes have taken place for use this year.

1.  We purchased new iPads this year for all students in grades K-12.  We went with keyboard cases for the 7-12, and regular slim Dux cases for the K-6.  With keyboarding continuing to stay in our curriculum, we thought we needed to make this change, and it really makes things easier with that keyboard right on there.  HOWEVER - with that said - comes the challenge of kids actually typing the correct way - more to come on that...We spent six days putting these babies together.  Apple sure knows how to package these buggers - two days alone was spent unpacking cases and iPads - YIKES!  Needless to say, we made it and hired some amazing kids to help in the process.

2. We changed our JAMF management system to JAMF Schools.  There was SO much in the old JAMF Business that we didn't need, so we saved some money and jumped to the school side.  This has been a challenge for me a bit at times, as I was so used to the way the other system ran, but I am getting used to it.  All the things we really need are here, and it is more cost efficient for us as a school.

3.  All iPads are insured through Apple Care.  Families paid the $49 fee, which covers two breaks a year for three years, and we are glad we did.  We no longer have to take iPads to be fixed.  I call Apple, they send me boxes, I mail the broken ones, they send me new ones - that simple!  This makes my life so much easier - I am happy:)!

4.  New building - new things coming - There are SO many things that I will post in the coming months as our new school is starting to be in the "finalized" stages.  Next week we should be moving into the new office space with new systems and set ups.  Our new commons area will have interactive touch televisions and monitors up for announcements, etc.. The band and choir areas are supposed to be complete by the second week in December, and after the first of the year our new Performing Arts Center, Gymnasium, and Fitness Center will be complete.  Once these areas are done,  I will upload photos so people can see them.

Take care friends - I will be better from now on trying to post weekly as we have some pretty cool things going on here - be well!

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
