Fall Conferences - What to Do?

Currently, we are still in person in Barnesville.  However, we are limiting the number of people that actually come into the building.  So with conferences this fall, we decided to go with virtual conferences through Zoom, and used Sign Up Genius to schedule them.  This is a SUPER easy way for teachers (I actually created all of them) to create a "sign up" with time slots, and then parents can choose which time they want to have a virtual conference.

We created a shared Google Doc that we posted on our school website and Facebook pages so parents could find each individual teacher's sign up.  They simple clicked the link and then picked the slot that worked for them.

Every teacher then posted his/her individual Zoom information in Schoology for parents to access when it was their time for a virtual conference.  I have had THREE parents reach out to me on "how to " do this, so I feel like this might be a success;)!

We had thought about using Google Hangout, but not everyone has a Google account, so the scheduling part and everything else became something we didn't want to mess with.  AND, since many churches and organizations in town have been using Sign Up Genius during Covid and other times, it just seemed to make sense!

If you had/have a great idea - I would LOVE to hear it - so far I have heard nothing regarding this other than how easy it was to track, sign up fo,r and use!

Happy Monday All - MEA week here so only two more days for us - Take care

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
