October is Here!!!

WE MADE IT A MONTH:)!!!!  NOW, I know I am being a little "up beat," but we are through ONE MONTH of this tough, tough situation!  Things have been HARD!  Things have been FRUSTRATING!  Things have been STRESSFUL!  BUT - YOU HAVE MADE IT ONE MONTH!!!  Taking ONE day at at time, CONTROLLING what you can, and DOING YOUR BEST - that is all we can do:)!!!  I AM PROUD OF YOU!!!

With that said, here are things that are happening here, how out life looks right now in Barnesville, MN, and what we have in place for the year:

*Currently we are IN PERSON at both the elementary level!  The state of Minnesota has five plans in place according to cases per 10,000 population.  Technically, we should be distance because of the numbers in Clay County, but we are not Moorhead, which shares a border with Fargo, so they are allowing us to stay in person for now!  FINGERS CROSSED!  We have had a few cases, and students and staff quarantining  because of this, but it's manageable for now!

*Staff members are using Zoom, Screencastify, Google Education, Schoology, Notability app, Educreations app, and Apple TVs and Smarboards to deliver content.  Some are recording directly in Zoom as they are teaching, others are creating videos to upload using Educreations of Screencastify.  Whatever they are most comfortable with is what they use.  Some have been videoing everything and uploading for use later if students are sick, or for review, others aren't - again, personal preference.

*Fridays are our check in days - so from 8:30-11:00am teachers meet with each hour of the day at the high school, and classrooms at the elementary, to have closure for the week, teach a shorter lesson, or just check in on students and see how they are doing - THIS IS IMPORTANT!!  Friday afternoons are spent troubleshooting items, creating videos, collaborating, and having meetings and discussions regarding distance learning and this crazy world we live in right now!

*Activities are currently taking place in Barnesville. The fall musical is having rehearsals, football and volleyball for grades 7-12 are currently practicing and playing games.  The state of MN allows football to have spectators for games - we are allowed 250 total - 150 or home and 100 for away is what we are doing - and volleyball is being live streamed since we can't have spectators for them.  That's going to be HARD for parents of volleyball players indeed, but they are able to play and be together, which again is helping them overall!  This can change at any moment of course, so we are taking advantage of it right now which our kids can have SOME sort of normalcy!

We are adjusting as needed, JUST like everyone else - we have a lot going on that we can't control - so we are trying to let that go and control what we CAN!

Have a great week everyone

Mrs. I:)

Resources Compiled for COVID-19

Here is a PLETHORA of resources that I have been compiling as we are dealing with teaching during COVID-19.  Use what you can - search and seek - I am going to just COPY AND PASTE - so the links might not be active:) Video/Podcast Options: Zoom!: This program allows you to video conference with up to 100 people.  HOWEVER, I feel this one is NOT the best for large groups, BUT, would be awesome to do with one on one or small group work, or recording videos to upload to Schoology.  Create an account and download this to your Macbook here, https://zoom.us/ and the students will have the app. Zoom How To: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-fnwZGctrFlE-Ho8Y5C_v8Hit7KdSnvW Explain Everything App : You can teach just about anything you would want, especially math, with this app.  This app allows you to import pictures, files, etc.. and then voice over it, even drawing if needed, to create a video.  Simply upload to YouTube, share the link and done!! I LIED!!! I TAKE THE THANK YOU TO APPLE BACK:(!!! UGH!!!

All went well yesterday after we had done the Apple Configurator update - here were a few that we had to put into recovery mode, etc... which wasn't GREAT- but worked alright.  Students had to put in email address again as well as Schoology, no big deal.  Some lost their camera roll pictures - not the TOTAL end of the world.  But TODAY - 5 kids have LOST EVERYTHING!!! UGH!!  I don't do ANYTHING different with these iPads that I don't do with the others that have worked fine - so WHY?????????????  A senior girl and a freshman boy lost EVERYTHING!  It COMPLETELY WIPED their iPads and reinstalled ALL again - WHY???????????  I want to call Apple but I am TOO MAD to call as I wouldn't be anything tactful at all - so I sit and ponder what it might be - maybe I should use another word than Ponder, I guess they're throwing him back in next week, huh??:):)  I just don't know what to do.  AND the part that gets me the MOST is Apple KNOWS that sc...

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)
