Chaos in the Moment.....

The end of the year ALWAYS brings TONS of chaos for us as one would imagine.  Tables are set up for cleaning -

Students in grades 4-12 have been coming in to clean his/her OWN cases and then put them back together.  Once they do this, they label chargers, grab his/her card that matches his/her iPad and turns it in.  We then check it into the system and all is well.
After they have turned everything in, I cross them off my MASTER list and then start hooking them up to Apple Configurator to remove the paid apps so I gain back the redemption codes for next year's use.

HOWEVER - next year we will be using Casper Suite - and I CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!  Everything can be pushed wirelessly through this MDM so I am PUMPED!  Truly, this has worked for us the past four years, but we will not be able to do Apple Classroom without an MDM, so we are in need now!  The things that this allows you to do via an MDM is something you MUST look into if you are a 1:1 iPad school.  Here are just a FEW of the things:

1.  Teachers can see which app each student is on in the class
2.  Teachers can lock students IN an app so they can't cheat of exit out (without using accessibility)
3. Student iPads can be LOCKED if they are not doing what you want them to do
4. You can put SOME students in one app, others in another, and so forth

The control is REALLY given back to the teacher as far as those students that aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing - LOVE!  IT!!

Have a great night - check this one out, also
Mrs. I:)

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
