YIKES - NOW WHAT?

We gained three new students today in our district - YAHOO:)!!  Usually what I would do is hook up an iPad - remove the apps that are not needed for this particular grade and student and put the apps on that are needed - NOT SO!  Look at the message that I got today:
Uninstallation of apps is prohibited by a policy on the device - WHAT IS THIS??? I have NEVER seen this and have NO idea what to do!  Apparently after reading a "little" bit, it has something to do with Google and the policies that the developers are setting and using with their apps - OH OH OH!!  Therefore, I have NO option right now as to getting these kids grade level appropriate iPads -UGH!!  I can install the apps needed, but it won't let me uninstall ANY of them- WHAT. TO. DO.????
So for now - here I sit again - not knowing what direction to go - no one has answers - so guess what that means?  I GET to call Apple tomorrow;)!!  UGH. UGH. UGH.  Now, I KNOW they will be able to help me (wishful thinking here), but the ring around is a tough one to take sometimes!  Hopefully tomorrow it will be figured out and I can post YEAH YEAH YEAH!!

I'll keep you posted,
Mrs. I:)

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)
