Surfaces, too!:)

I HAVE to admit - I would have been the LAST person that would have said, "Maybe we should pilot some Surfaces in Mr. Askegaard's lab?"  Well, that is EXACTLY what we are doing.  He is having his computer apps classes use Microsoft accounts with the OneNote app and all that is it capable of.  Mr. Askegaard says, "it's like Google Docs on Steroids!!!"  He has been happy with it to say the least:)!!  I must admit, it is SUPER amazing and something that works PERFECT with Microsoft Office.  The students are able to upload assignments to OneNote, and he can go in and then correct everything RIGHT THERE - REAL TIME - and the students can see.  Schoology works in the same way - BUT - it's not as easy with documents that are NOT PDF files.
Here is what the lab looks like:

I was SO SO excited when I saw the purple keyboards since purple and white are our school colors - YAHOO:)!!!  Things are going well for Mr. Askegaard - and even though there were a TON of issues at the beginning of the year - he has troubleshooted his way through and things seem to be going much more smoothly now!  MORE TO COME ON THIS....

Happy Monday,
Mrs. I:)

More on Cyberbullying

Here's some more information regarding Cyberbullying to check out.  It's QUITE scary to think about all that children have to deal with nowadays!  The instant EVERYTHING - UGH!!  BUT, we as teachers, role models and parents can help and try to stay proactive.  Here is another link by Wiz Case to check out: A Comprehensive Cyberbullying Guide for Parents The more informed we are - the BETTER off we are as a whole.  This is such a tough and unfortunately never ending topic - good luck with this and PLEASE PLEASE share anything you have, anything you know, and keep your eyes out for all kiddos:)!! Happy Monday Mrs. I:)

Starfall Website......

I am not sure if I have shared this website with you, but our Kindergarteners are ROCKING IT OUT!  The site is Starfall and it has SO much great content on here.  Below is a list of content for the little ones:    The kiddos today were working on the Learn to Read section.  They had to listen to words, add beginning and ending sounds, and read stories and click and find things as they went.  They were TOTALLY engaged!  They even had a checklist to do once sections were completed to track their progress.    A SUPER fun one for the kiddos is preK-1st grade I would say FOR SURE:)! Bad news - NO iPad as it's flash based:(  - but still PLEASE CHECK IT OUT Happy Monday and night, Mrs. I:)

CodeHS - Great Site for High School Students

We have been looking for something in regards to coding for our senior high school students.  They have been having fun playing with the Sphero and the Dash and Dot , but they are a little old for this so to say.  Through my research, I came across a site called CodeHS .  THIS IS AMAZING:)!!!  Once you sign up, you are taken through a series of courses where you actually code.  You type in the commands and functions, trying to walk Karel, the dog, through various tasks.  Each section features a video explaining what you'll learn, a quiz to review, and then you step in and use what you learned to code Karel.  This seems like a really good fit for some of our kids.  We have two that are going into Computer Science, and this seems like a perfect stepping stone as it introduces HTML , Javascript and Python as they are also areas they will learn:). AND the best part - it's DONE FOR YOU and IT'S FREE!! Of COURSE you can pay for more, but i...
